This is for the earlier Foretravels with Aquahots
I finally got around to pulling out the heat exchanger under the kitchen cabinet. They are held in place by 2 screws in the front and 2 in the rear.
Once you have these removed, you can turn the unit on its side and remove the hose connections (if you loosen the radiator cap the water will drain back into the tank.
The reason the fan had gotten noisy and stopped (this is a 14″ squirrel cage type about 2″ in diameter)
At the end opposite the motor, the fan shaft is centered in a rubber bushing (brass center) that snaps into the frame.
This rubber bushing had slipped out of the frame and slid towards the motor, which then allowed the fan to drop about 3/8″ which put side stress on the motor thus binding and stopping.
I repositioned it and it has been running in my garage for over an hour without any problems.
The whole assembly has 12 years of accumulated dust and needed a good cleaning.
Before I put it back in, I will grease the end cap and secure it in place with a little silicone. So, it was a no-cost fix, probably about 2 hours total.
I did have to replace the old spring hose clamps with normal hose clamps.
