It is hidden in different places on different coaches. On my 97 U320, it was under the drawer in the galley. I would start there and look under the other drawers and cabinet bases. Maybe under the couch, or in the bay near the AH. Mike B. ’97 40′ U320
On our 97 U270, the level sensor is on the wood floor under the bottom drawer of the 4 drawers to the right of our kitchen sink. If your icemaker is below the pantry, the sensor will not be there. If you have 4 drawers between the kitchen sink and couch, it will be under the bottom drawer, which needs to be removed. Barry & Cindy 1997 Foretravel U270 36′
The two places I have been told to look are: under one of the large drawers in the kitchen, or under the large bottom desk drawer. Bingo, on my 98 U320 it is under the desk drawer. The desk sits at the rear of the couch on the driver’s side of the coach Dick 98 U320
In our 99 40ft DGFE it’s under the desk drawer. Orren B.
Some of the earlier coaches put it under the set of drawers in the front end of the kitchen. Sometimes they put the U-line icemaker there also, in which case the sensor was placed behind the U-line. I’ve seen it put under the slide-out drawer under the kitchen sink, and under the living room couch also. Dave Head 95 U320C SE 40
My 96 U295 has the sensor near the street-side wall behind the bottom galley drawer to the right of the sink and left of the sofa. You’ll need to take out the bottom 2 or 3 drawers to gain satisfactory access. Steve & Ginny Hill 96 U295 36′
I checked below all drawers, under the sink area, furnace/icemaker area, under couch and Jcouch, and finally located this puppy on the floor beneath the refrigerator. Geez, wish I had looked there first!!
One good thing came from looking in all the possible places for the sensor. I was able to vacuum all the sawdust, extra screws, wire connectors, ect.. in all those areas that were never cleaned up during the manufacturing process.
I found mine on the opposite side of the coach in the cabinet below the refrigerator. Yes, they are sensitive to adjust and you can easily become confused as to which side needs to be adjusted to correct any off-level condition. If one should happen to get things totally screwed up, it probably would be best to level the coach manually, then set a small level on the sensor and level it to the coach. This would get you close and require only minor tweaking to “dial it in”.
Mine was just slightly out of the level front to back. After checking several places with a hand level the bubble was not quite centered between the lines of the level, actually touching one line. Good enough for most folks I guess but I like things “right on”…a trait that has plagued me throughout life…even to the point of being labeled a perfectionist and enduring all the stigma associated with that! It is under the bottom drawer between the sofa and the sink bottoms. Remove the bottom two drawers and you should be able to access it. I understand the adjustment is really TOUCHY. JON TWORK 1996 U270 – 6/15/2008
On my 1993 U225, it’s under the couch. There are several fuses. You can get at them with the couch up but it’s a tight fit. The leveling plate for the system is also under the couch. To get at the fluid tank I had to remove the right side grill. If yours is like mine, be prepared for some tough going on those little grill screws. I replaced mine with stainless steel ones when I put it back together. Mine was a quart low btw. I used ATF as that’s what was in it already (red color and OK according to the HWH documentation). That little deal on top of the tank is the dipstick. You have to remove the little top hat and filter, unscrew the stick and go for a level line between the two marks. Good luck. Here’s a couple of photos. John O’Reilly 1993 U225
The HWH leveling sensor was behind the U-Line ice maker that is located between the kitchen sink and the sofa on the driver’s side. If the ice maker were not there, I expect there would be four drawers which would correspond to the configuration suggested by many.
I removed four small screws that held the lip of the ice maker to the cabinet. I removed the one screw that holds a kick panel in front of the mechanical bay of the ice maker. That exposed two wood screws with internal square head drives. After I removed those, the ice maker was easy to remove.. The power cord and water line were long enough to allow setting the unit out of the way without disconnecting it.
I manually leveled the coach using bubble levels. While my spouse watched the HWH control panel, I tweaked the mounting screws for the sensor with a screwdriver equipped with a square driver. The spouse let me know when the yellow lights illuminated. I worked on a couple of screws that were primary adjustments for fore/aft and left/right. I found the screw positions that caused the yellow “out of level” lights to illuminate. I put the screws in positions near halfway between the “out of level” positions. I am more content with leveling now that I have tweaked the adjustment. I have a better understanding of the settings and functionality. JDS 1997 U295 36′HWH Leveling Sensor Adjustment
