This is a small upgrade to what I found as an annoying problem:
At night with the roller shade pulled down over the entry door I would have to roll the shade back up to exit the coach and then pull it back down again when I came back in. When traveling with a dog this was a nuisance. I wasn’t sure it would work that well when I was making it, but it works great – wish I had done it years ago.
Because the shade doesn’t need to go down as far as before, I cut off the excess length (on the inside of the roll – attaches with staples) and used the scrap to cover the plywood hood that covers the roll. I bought a new side attaching roller brackets at Home Depot. I had to shorten the roller width by a couple of inches and trim the vinyl with scissors lengthwise. It takes a little bit of planning to make sure the box clears the wall frame when the door swings open.
